Hi,

As a user new to axiom I find the many different pages on the net dealing with axiom difficult: It takes a lot of surfing to learn which page is relevant. Right now I saw

None of these pages is easily found by google (try "axiom cas"), they all seem somewhat related, but even after a few days it's not clear to me how they differ and what they really are about.

There should be one page containing the relevant introductory material (motivation, description, screenshots, tutorial, download) from a user's perspective (try "maxima cas" in google). This also helps developers since attracting users is always good in an open source project.

A short term fix would be to put links to http://page.axiom-developer.org/zope/mathaction/FrontPage on the very top of every page and mark them as "for beginners".

Welcome!

This is quite strange. MathAction is the seventh hit on google for just "axiom", and "axiom computer algebra system" finds axiom on savannah as first hit.

I agree that there should be only one page, and I am promoting MathAction for this purpose. However, especially Bill Page thinks that Plone would be better suited in the long run. Time will tell.

Martin

PS: when using MathAction, PLEASE identify yourself. This has to be done only once, the rest is cookiemagic.

axiom cas --Bill Page, Thu, 10 Feb 2005 05:44:23 -0600 reply
Using a common abbreviation like cas in a google search is probably not a good idea. Unfortunately axiom also is a fairly common word (much more common than maxima) however the mathaction web site (definitely the best place to get started) was number 7 on the list when I tried the search and the page description seemed pretty clear to me.

If you are wondering what http://page.axiom-developer.org/zope/Plone is about, I recently added some explanation at PanAxiomCommunity.

I will see what I can do to add a few more "helpful" descriptions to http://page.axiom-developer.org in the next few days.

Thanks for the comments.

I definetely agree --unknown, Mon, 04 Jul 2005 12:31:18 -0500 reply
Hi
I agree with the user that a content-management software is needed. The pages are somewhat confusing.

content-management software --Bill Page, Mon, 04 Jul 2005 12:53:36 -0500 reply
The Axiom web site is already based on content-management software. The fact these pages might be confusing is due to either a lack of talent or time (or both). As an Axiom user, your participation in improving these pages is strongly encouraged. Please edit them and add your own improved content. Everyone will benefit.

Not an Axiom issue --daly, Thu, 20 Dec 2007 06:10:06 -0800 reply
Category: general => MathAction

This is a MathAction issue, not an Axiom issue.
